Born November 26th in 1987 in Vienna to a Japanese Mother and Austrian Father, Kenji Herbert grew up in Osaka and Kobe, Japan. Began taking lessons on violin from age 6 and picked up the guitar when he was 14. Has been attending the Seminar for Jazz and Improvised Music Salzburg regularly since 2004 where he came in contact with renowned musicians such as Wolfgang Muthspiel, Nguyen Le, Jim Black, Ingrid Jensen, George Garzone, Huw Warren, Mark Dresser and Peter Herbert who is also his uncle. From 2006-2008 he was a student of Wolfgang Muthspiel at the Music Academy in Basel, Switzerland. Since 2009 he resides in Boston studying as a scholarship student at the Berklee College of Music. Kenji has performed at various venues leading his own bands and as a sideman in Japan and Europe. Some highlights include appearances at the Jazz Festival in Basel and the Jazzwerkstatt Wien and going on a Swiss-Tour with Mike Westbrook and the DKSJ-Allstar-Band. contact-> Contact U.S.- Contact Europe- |
